Sludge disposal through Sludge Drying

At present, the first two methods are mostly used for sludge disposal, but according to the “recycling” trend of pollutant disposal, sludge incineration may become mainstream in the future. According to data released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, as of the end of December 2017, 4,119 urban sewage treatment plants have been built and operated across the country.

The cost issue can also be understood as a technical issue to a certain extent, and the harmless disposal of sludge still needs to break through the technical issue. Recently, the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced the handling measures of the “12369 Environmental Protection Report” in October 2018. The data shows that in terms of pollution types, the air pollution reports in October accounted for the largest proportion, accounting for 57.4%. Among all reports on air pollution, 43% reported malodor and malodorous pollution. In the water environment treatment process, if there are pollutants that cannot be properly treated, it is easy to produce peculiar smell, and it is sludge that produces peculiar smell pollution.

The sludge production rate is high, but the current harmless treatment rate is only about 50%, and the demand is great.

The demand for sludge treatment is growing strongly

According to the information released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the daily treatment capacity of urban sewage treatment plants in 2016 was 149.1 million cubic meters, and the sewage treatment rate was 93.44%. As of the end of December 2017, a total of 2,372 sewage treatment plants have been built and operated in cities across the country, with a daily sewage treatment capacity of 151 million cubic meters.

If factors such as regional overall planning and pollutant classification are not considered, the scale of urban sewage treatment is close to saturation.

According to the data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, as of 2016, the total sewage discharge statistics showed that the data did not fluctuate significantly in the three years. From 2015 to 2016, the total waste water discharge dropped by 3.3%, and it is expected that there will be no significant increase in waste water discharge in the future. (Total wastewater discharge refers to the sum of industrial wastewater discharge and domestic sewage discharge.)

In the fourth quarter of 2017, China’s urban sewage treatment plants treated 14.351 billion cubic meters of sewage, a year-on-year increase of 5.3%. The cumulative sludge disposal capacity was 8.084 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 12.1%. (Source: Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development)

Generally speaking, the volume of sewage and the volume of sludge are within a certain ratio, and the proportional coefficient does not change much. If the scale of sewage treatment is close to saturation, the growth rate of sludge disposal is relatively high, which also reflects that the current gap in sludge disposal is relatively large, and subsequent demand growth will be relatively strong.

The market size of harmless sludge disposal will double in three years

According to the “Thirteenth Five-Year” National Urban Sewage Treatment and Recycling Facilities Construction Plan issued by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, by the end of 2020, the harmless disposal rate of urban sludge at prefecture level and above will reach 90% , Other cities will reach 75%; county towns will strive to reach 60%; key towns will increase by 5 percentage points, and sludge treatment and disposal will be initially realized in integrated towns.

According to data released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the total amount of sludge disposed of in cities and towns across the country in 2017 was 32.57 million tons. If the planned target index is to be reached, by 2020, the amount of sludge disposed of will increase by 98%, which means that the market within three years The scale will double.

The harmless disposal of sludge is not easy

The amount of sludge produced is large, and if it is not properly disposed of, it is easy to cause secondary pollution. According to the current “National Directory of Hazardous Wastes”, wastewater treatment sludge in most industries is classified as hazardous waste. If it is transported to a hazardous waste treatment plant for disposal in accordance with the standard, the cost is 100-500 yuan/ton. Among them, the cost of sludge composting is about 100 yuan/ton, the cost of sludge landfilling is about 200 yuan/ton, and the cost of sludge incineration is between 300 and 500 yuan/ton.
